Los Angeles, CA – Tenor sax player Art Grider is now working with A&R Select. The announcement came recently from the offices of A&R Select, the premier A&R firm based out of Los Angeles, CA. Grider’s captivating saxophone stylings have been sweeping up the loyalties of listeners since the release of his “Original Works of Art” CD. The supple sounds and rewarding emotional textures of Grider’s saxophone make for a luxurious aural experience. This musician has honed his craft in numerous musical endeavors. Grider has played with a variety of church bands around the country, not to mention several jazz groups. He has played the Blue Sky concert Series on College Square, the Borders Bookstore Music Series, the Cateechee Golf Club Jazz Night, Farm255, The Library, and a number of other venues in the Athens, GA area. He was featured on the Greg Clinton album “Essays and Contemplations,” on the song “Interplanetary Jam.” Grider’s accomplishments are particularly praiseworthy in light of the fact that he suffers from a split personality. This overcomer not only manages to be a polished saxophonist, but he also works as an associate professor of nutritional biochemistry at a major research university. The songs on “Original Works of Art” are all, naturally, original. Grider also shot the photos for the album and the monograph gracing the CD’s cover was crafted by his late father after leaving the military in the 1940s. The songs incorporate many flavors; Grider draws from a diverse selection of genres, including rock-n-roll, prog rock, gospel, country, jazz, funk and more. “The album is best described in one word,” says Grider, “bluesifusifunkabossaballadacious!” The songs, says Grider, reflect both his musical nature and those of the musicians playing with him. The album was reviewed in the October 25, 2006, issue of Flagpole magazine. He is currently working with A&R Select, the premier A&R firm based out of Los Angeles, CA.
